Pier 60 at Clearwater Beach is lovely and touristy and very active, especially at night, but we’ve had a long day and I’m tired of walking around. Red alert: there are few if any tent friendly places to camp in the St. Pete’s area. We drive around for hours after dinner at Shepards, looking for someplace to just pull over for a few hours and sleep.
Tired of scratching and bleeding, tired of driving, I make the executive decision to deviate from our roughing it routine. There’s a Walmart! I pick up a box of Epson Salt, and start searching for a dog friendly hotel with a tub.
Is it just me? Or is everyone grateful for a superstore that is open 24hours? Sure, they’re despicable and all that, but thank you, Walmart, for being virtually everywhere and always open! So, salts in hand, I GPS for a Hampton Inn—and YES! There is one in Largo! Only a mile or so farther down the road from the Walmart!
This is heaven indeed, we are saved! I head to the Hampton, check in, and within 30 minutes the kids are tucked in for the night, and I’m getting a salty, steamy hot soak.
It doesn’t take much to make me happy. A box of salt and a tub. Ok, and a glass of really good red wine. I had to face it, I looked like hell. It was clear many of these welts and bites became infected and the best thing I could do is continue this treatment until I heal up and grow new skin. And of course I need to “wean off” the loads of Benadryl I’ve been taking for days.
We decided that night, that the Largo Hampton would be home for at least a few days. What that meant was salt soaks twice a day, and serious exploration of the greater St. Petersburg and surrounding areas.
What’s not to love about a little city life and TLC?
